Tow Dolly Rental 101

Have you ever wanted to tow your car but thought it seemed like a bit of a chore? Many folks are not used to towing their vehicles and fortunately it is not necessary to do so very often but it is also not very hard to accomplish in cases where it is a necessity. One of the best ways to tow your vehicle is by using a tow dolly rental for the purpose.
A car dolly is typically a two wheeled trailer you can hitch to a suitable vehicle such as a full size pickup truck or van. Once your car tow dolly is securely attached to the towing vehicle you can then extend the loading ramps and drive the vehicle you will be towing up onto the platform built into the dolly. If your vehicle is disabled you may be able to push it onto the tow dolly provided the gradient is convenient for the purpose.

Once the vehicle is situated with the front wheels on the dolly (or the rear wheels if it is a rear wheel drive vehicle) you will be able to use the ratchet straps typically included with the unit to secure the wheels to the car dolly. Once this is done you have effectively made a trailer out of your vehicle and the dolly and are ready to transport the unit to where ever you see fit.
There are a few limitations to the otherwise rosy tow dolly rental picture. If you have a vehicle that is very low or has aftermarket ground effects installed then you may want to double check that the body panels or undercarriage of the car will not scrape as it bounces over bumps in the road during transport. It would be unfortunate to successfully load and tow you vehicle only to damage it in the process.
Some vehicles are not really well suited to towing with a car dolly but the majority of mid-size passenger cars will work just fine. Most of these types of cars are front wheel drive so you will end up loading them with the front wheels mounted on the dolly which is the simplest way to go.
There are a number of options available in the tow dolly rental space including the traditional rental options like U-Haul and Penske. You may also be able to find local, independent dolly rentals available at establishments such as trailer dealerships.
